Michalak will not need surgery

France flyhalf Frederic Michalak does not require knee surgery and he should be out of action for no more than three months, his agent said on Wednesday.

The Sharks player hyper-extended his left knee during his team’s 25-10 defeat to the New South Wales Waratahs last Saturday and Sharks management initially thought he had torn the anterior-cruciate ligament and could be out for six months.

“He had a scan on his knee that showed a sprain but he will not undergo surgery and should be out for two to three months,” said Dalila Essidiri.

“He will stay for 10 to 15 more days in Toulouse and we will then see if he goes back (to South Africa). It will depend on what the Sharks want to do with him.”

The 25-year-old’s contract with the South African side was scheduled to end in June.
