Meyer happy back in South Africa

Former Leicester Tigers coach Heyneke Meyer has formed a new sports management company in his native South Africa.

Sports Max will offer advice on psychological and conditioning approaches to improve the performance of sportsmen and women.

Meyer left the Tigers last month due to a family illness. While that situation has not changed, Meyer is happier to work from home.

“This is a great opportunity for me to put something back in South African sport, and rugby in particular,” Meyer told Sport24.

“Sport Max will follow a new and unique approach to identify promising sports people, develop and lead them to the top. We want a holistic approach to ensure our young people are well-coached and developed, so that they can compete at the highest level.”

He does not foresee a return to coaching in the near future.

“I also see this as an opportunity to get involved at national level, but for now I would prefer not to coach teams,” Meyer continued. “The idea is to get involved country-wide, identify the talent and then nurture it through to the highest level.”
