Casey denied place in full Ireland squad

London Irish captain Bob Casey has missed out on a place in the Ireland squad for the sumer tour of New Zealand and Australia.

The Exiles skipper, who led Irish to the last four of the Heineken Cup this season, is included in the group that will face the Barbarians at Kingsholm on May 27 but will not be on the plane to the Southern Hemisphere.

Casey’s fellow Premiership Irishman, Harlequins prop Mike Ross, is also only in the group to face the BaaBaas while Ulster’s Neil Best, who joins Northampton this summer, also misses out on the trip.

Meanwhile Andrew Trimble has joined Gordon D’Arcy among the absentees for the tour. Ulster centre Trimble requires rehabilitation on a leg injury and will miss the Tests against the All Blacks and Wallabies on June 7 and 14.

D’Arcy was ruled out of the tour earlier in the week after undergoing further surgery on the broken arm sustained during the RBS 6 Nations.
