Barnes out of cup final

Bath prop David Barnes will miss Sunday’s European Challenge Cup Final after re-injuring his calf in Sunday’s defeat to Wasps.

Barnes will be replaced by David Flatman, who came on for his colleague in the 21-10 Premiership play-off defeat.

Bath head coach Steve Meehan told BBC Radio Bristol: “I’m sure he won’t take part given that’s the same calf he injured against Saracens,”

“He was out for a fortnight then so I cannot see him healing in time.”

Bath were also without England hooker Lee Mears on Sunday, who missed out with a shoulder problem, and saw openside Michael Lipman leave the field requiring stitches to a cut lip.

“Both of these guys are England internationals,” said Meehan. “They have been in good form and both are important members of our team.

“Mearsy was just shy of making the Wasps game so he should be OK for next Sunday and a little bit of plastic skin over Michael’s lip might get him home for next week.”
