VICKERY: I’M QUEEN AND COUNTRY, I DON’T GIVE A SH*T WHAT ANYONE ELSE THINKS
He is no longer England captain and cannot be guaranteed a starting place in Martin Johnson’s new team, but in an unflinching chat with International Rugby News, Phil Vickery leaves no one in any doubt that his pride in playing for his country still rages fiercely as ever.
The London Wasps prop reveals his undimmed passion for the game stems from fears that his playing days were finished before his move to the capital from Gloucester.
“The fact that I thought my career might have been over a couple of years ago has something to do with it,” he said.
“When I met with Ian McGeechan to talk about coming to Wasps I was in a really bad way, to be honest. I didn’t really know which way it was going to go.”
Since then Vickery has led his country in a World Cup final and won European and domestic championships with Wasps.
