GRAHAM ROWNTREE: NO ONE MESSES JOHNNO ABOUT
In December’s International Rugby News England Assistant Coach Graham Rowntree reveals that no one takes any liberties under Martin Johnson’s regime.
“Johnno commands respect,” says Rowntree. “He has this aura around him that he had as a player. I have been really impressed with how he speaks to the lads; he speaks with a lot of authority and knowledge. Everyone toes the line, everyone’s early for meetings. Everything is very structured and we have a great set-up.”
Rowntree also delivers his verdict on England’s hookers vying for the No.2 shirt, Dylan Hartley and Lee Mears.
“Lee Mears, I mean he was third choice a year ago at the World Cup and his game has really progressed. His set-piece is immaculate, he’s a very experienced player now.
“And then you have a contrasting player in Dylan Hartley, who is all aggression and bustling with energy. He knows he has to develop his set piece a lot more.”
